| For over twenty years, the civil war in Angola served as a justification for the lack of social and economic development, the absence of public services, and the conditions of extreme poverty in which a large part of the population live. Any criticism of the government was refuted - the argument being that its priority was winning the war. Those who did dare to criticize were accused of playing the game or of being part of the armed opposition group, UNITA. Some years after signing the peace agreements, on the April 4th, 2002, the argument is no longer valid and the layers of corruption at all levels of the State machinery are becoming more obvious. |
