About The Peace Research Center

The Peace Research Center (Centro de Investigación para la Paz, CIP-FUHEM) is a non-profit institution dedicated to the multi-disciplinary analysis of such international issues as armed conflict (its causes, consequences and actors), conflict prevention, conflict resolution and the reconstruction process. The Center also studies and disseminates information on topics related to globalization, fragile states, the multilateral system, human rights, migration, ethnicity, indigenous peoples, gender, international justice, peace studies and development education.

Founded in 1984 by FUHEM, the Center is a private, non-governmental organization and an active participant in national and international networks and forums. It is a founding member of the Spanish Association of Peace Researchers (Asociación Española de Investigación para la Paz, AIPAZ) and has received the United Nations Messenger of Peace Prize.

The bulk of the Center’s work consists of publishing articles and other works as well as organizing public activities, seminars, conferences, courses and training sessions for NGOs, non-profits, universities, and public institutions. The Center acts as a source of information for Spanish and international media, politicians, government workers, researchers, academics, civil society and contemporary students of peace and conflict issues.

The geographic areas that are of special interest to the Center’s researchers are: Latin America (namely Colombia), the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
